The recent fires that devastated the North State have impacted everyone. The Tehama County Library helped many new patrons who unfortunately lost everything because of wild fires. The one common thing the library heard from the community was “I just wish I could get my photos back.”

With that in mind the Tehama County Library created a Retro Technology Lab.

What exactly is a Retro Technology Lab? Do you have VHS tapes, slides and photos that are decaying? The library can help you convert your memories to a digital format.

How it Works

This free program led by library staff member’s participants will learn how to digitize their memorabilia. Including slides, VHS, 8 millimeter tapes and photographs.

Tools available:

  • Film Scanner
  • 8mm and Super 8 Digital Converter
  • DVD/VCR
  • VHS Digital Converter
  • Photo and Document Scanner
  • Cassette Tape Digital Converter

How to Prepare

Prioritize which memories you’d like to preserve. Come prepared with your items and a USB storage device or standard sized SD card with sufficient space to save your digitizations, or an account with an online storage service (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.). The library will have limited USB storage devices available.

Drop ins are welcome on Monday and Wednesday from 2-6p.m. starting July 15th. This service is offered in the activity room of the Red Bluff Library.
